About This Site

Mobility Aids Home Hub is written by Marjorie Lindqvist, a retired office manager who rebuilt her own split-level house for safety after a scare in the bathtub. We publish hands-on reviews, comparisons and how-to guides on the gear that keeps a home safe to live in: shower chairs, suction grab bars, rollator walkers, motion-sensor night lights and toilet safety rails. Everything here is written from real use at home, in plain language, for people who want to stay active and independent.

Home Safety Notes

The articles on this site share one person's experience with home safety and mobility products. They are not medical advice, and they are not a substitute for an assessment by your doctor, a physical therapist or an occupational therapist, who can look at your balance, strength and home and recommend the right equipment for you.

Suction grab bars are a balance assist only. Never put your full body weight on a suction bar or rely on one to catch a fall, check that it is firmly attached before every use, and mount it only on smooth, non-porous tile. A grab bar screwed into wall studs or proper anchors is the right choice wherever you need real support.

Check the weight rating of every shower chair, transfer aid, rollator and toilet rail against your own weight, and assemble and adjust it exactly as the manufacturer directs. Lock rollator brakes before you sit, never use a rollator seat to be pushed around like a wheelchair, and keep rubber tips and feet in good condition. Replace any equipment that wobbles, cracks or slips.

Wet bathroom floors, loose rugs, poor lighting at night and clutter on stairs cause many falls at home. If you have fallen recently, feel dizzy, or are recovering from surgery, talk to your doctor before changing your routine or equipment.
